Who are you?
Hi! I'm Katherine. I graduated from
Olin College with a degree in Systems Engineering.
Right now I am a web application developer at the
Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the
Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
Why radiant radon?
According to
webelements.com, "When cooled below the freezing point,
radon exhibits a brilliant phosphorescence which becomes yellow as the temperature is lowered and orange-red
at the temperature of liquid air." It sounded really cool when I was fifteen and in search of a new handle.
What else are you interested in?
I am interested in oceanography, particularly primary productivity and ocean color.
I also like web design and development–I built the citizen-science
website
Jellywatch.org as an MBARI intern and continue to be involved with the project.
I became very interested in machine learning after working on a project trying to predict when algal blooms would happen based on historical data,
so I took a machine learning class at NPS and am working my way through
this book at home.
I like making
bean bags.
Sometimes I put
stuff on my head.
Where did you learn to balance things on your head?
At home when I was little, I guess? I don't remember when/where I learned. It's
not that difficult.
Can I email you?
Of course! My email is radiantradon at gmail.
